Digital Taco Bell Virtually Delicious
The best evidence that the Internet is the greatest development in human history may well be the outrageously thorough website for that purveyor of hilarious Mexican-American-Stoner edible food-like fare, Taco Bell. Taco Bell’s website does beautiful justice its superior product, with an intensive (and extensive) java-powered menu, complete with descriptions and high-quality photographs of all of the various incarnations of tacos, burritos, nachos and anything else you may call a tortilla wrapped around a mess of cheese, meat, imitation lettuce and various euphemisms for mayonnaise and sour cream that don’t reveal anything about their flavors (Baja, Santa Fe, etc), but are delicious nonetheless.
TacoBell.com is much more than an anthology of images of delicious faux-Mexican culinary delights; It is an interactive, multimedia experience that is as stimulating aurally as it is visually. In the upper-right-hand corner of the site’s homepage, a music player is available, complete with various instrumental versions of the Taco Bell theme song. ‘Orchestra Mix’ is novel, and ‘Lounge Mix’ isn’t without it’s charms, but call me a purist, but I prefer the traditional ‘brand mix.’
Perhaps the best part of the Taco Bell website can be found in the ‘Drinks’ subgroup of the ‘Menu’ section. Here, we find an external link to a site that promises to teach us more about Mountain Dew Baja Blast, a soft drink described by TacoBell.com as “A tropical lime-flavored concoction only available at Taco Bell® (participating locations) because it was made specially to go with our great-tasting food.” It’s so awesome that this particular flavor of a particular brand of soda has its own website, complete, for some reason with live webcam video feeds from beaches around the world, a video simulation of driving a run-down, early-80′s Jeep Wagoneer, and its own store finder, which identifies the participating Taco Bell locations that currently serve Mountain Dew Baja Blast, the soda made specifically for the great-tasting food at Taco Bell.
The Internet it a beautiful thing; Without the in-depth website of Mountain Dew Baja Blast, there would be no way to properly footnote its existence in Taco Bell’s Wikipedia entry.
